I am 45 yrs old and I have been on a daily 500 mg dose of VALACYCLOVIR since 2014 due to repeated shingle outbreaks since I was 12 yrs old, I have not had a single outbreak since I was switched to a daily dose..I stumbled upon this thread looking for info on how vulnerable or if I would be period to Covid, I am curious on the advantages or disadvantages if any.

Taking valacyclovir for cold sore suppression daily for a few years. My wife contracted Covid 19. Her doc said it was allergies and a week later when symptoms persisted we had her tested. I contracted mild symptoms but when I was tested it came back negative. So there may be something to this medication working for covid 19

I too became very sick back in March (and I rarely get sick). Fever, difficulty breathing, bad cough…felt like I was drowning plus severe sinus issues, etc. When I heard about a new virus around I automatically dug out my Valtrex and popped 4 pills and used my inhalers. Figured I had nothing to lose. Took 2nd dose 12 hours later and redid the same thing the following day. After the first day of Valtrex the turn around in my health was amazing. I feel it prevented me from getting much worse. Still have some sinus issues, lack of sense of smell but that I can live with. I always keep a bottle of Valtrex with me wherever I go. Was it Covid….I won’t know till they test me for antibodies but I suspect it was.

I got a cold sore about a month ago and just recently got another. I take famvicor 500mg to kill off the cold sore on lip before it comes in. I take 1500mg and then 1 pill a day for three days. But this time I took 1500mg and then additional 13 pills and finally it’s going away. I have never had a cold sore in less than a month and never had to med myself this much. I never get headaches and had a light headache. I live in NYC and have a suspicion I was exposed to covid and my immune system was lowered this the cold sore and by attacking it I may have also attacked the covid 19 with the same Meds. Something to look into and this week I will goto get tested for the antibodies see if my suspiciousness is verified.

I started feeling some burning in my throat and started taking my Valtrex. My dose is 2gm 2x daily. My throat quit burning and I thought nothing of it. 4 days later I ran out and started feeling pretty sick (nausea, short of breath, icky tummy, sore throat again, extremely exhausted). Lo and behold I got notified that I had contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case. I kept feeling sicker and sicker until I read this article and refilled my prescription. I can tell a significant difference from taking my first dose of the new prescription this morning. I’m ALWAYS sick. Always. Sinus infections, bronchitis walking pneumonia. And sadly I’m currently quite fat. Bmi 39.9. I’ve been so worried about COVID. I have terrible asthma, chronic sinusitis manifestong into walking pneumonia etc. I get way sicker than this with the common cold. Fingers crossed, knocking on wood and all other non scientific voodoo that I can stay this course. I’m also taking all the essentials for chronic flu like sickness (vitamin c, zinc, garlic, flushing the sinuses, drinking extra water and mint tea, sage and lavender in the diffuser, air purifier in the bedroom, probiotics )

You are confusing correlation with causation, just like those British sailors who noticed that limes seemed to prevent scurvy and concluded that limes might prevent scurvy 🙂

I have been taking 500mg dailyvfor the last 13 years w/o untoward side effects. Ever since the onset of this virus in America I have been repeatedly exposed to Covid -19 patients prior to and subsequent to their diagnosis. To date I have not suffered any of the Covid-19 symptoms. As a minister, I am out and about with people daily. Of course I take the necessary precautions as I am abke. But often the distancing and or masking are not possible in the performance of my work among the shut-ins and the covid-19 affected. I worked in the US Army medical department for 17vyears prior to entering the ministry.I hope this post helps many.

I stumbled on this article because I have been trying to figure out if I may have contracted covid-19 earlier this year.
I had come down with a severe cough, enough to be prescribed a chamber for my ventolin, no sense of taste or smell (couldn’t even smell eucalyptus or curry), and a fever in early January. Then all of a sudden, developed a rash that was actually shingles (pretty rare at 29 years old). I was put on valacyclovir, and not only were the shingles gone, but all my flu symptoms were gone as well. I don’t know whether my respiratory systems were covid or not, but valacyclovir (my antiviral) sure got rid of any symptoms. They should really look into it as a form of treatment….

So can we do a calculation of how many people did the drug and did not have to go back on the drug with positive covid-19 people. This is a great idea..
