Dr Christopher Saunter

Dr Christopher Saunter is the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Magnitude Biosciences, a UK-based contract research organisation focused on accelerating early-stage drug discovery. Since co-founding the company in 2018 as a spin-out from Durham University, he has led the development of its core technology platforms, including the proprietary WormGazer® automated imaging system and VivoScanTM HTS platform, which uses the nematode C. elegans to generate rapid, high-content in vivo data for pharmaceutical, biotech and consumer health applications.

In his current role as CTO, he is responsible for the company’s technological strategy and innovation, driving the integration of automated imaging, AI-enabled analysis and scalable screening workflows. Before moving into industry, he had an extensive academic career at Durham University, where he spent over 15 years applying advanced imaging and physics-based approaches to biological research, ultimately serving as an Associate Professor in Physics and reflecting a long-standing focus on bridging physics and life sciences, particularly in the fields of ageing biology, neurodegeneration and high-throughput phenotypic screening.
