Virus-like particles (VLPs) closely resemble viruses but are non-infectious and contain no viral genetic material, offering a versatile platform for applications across diagnostic and vaccine development.

But how are VLPs produced at scale, and what makes them particularly useful in serological applications?

In this webinar, experts from LGC will explore unmodified VLPs, including flavi-, alpha- and calici-VLPs, taking attendees through key considerations in their manufacture, purification and quality control.

The session will examine the advantages of stable cell line development over transient transfection for raw material production, with a particular focus on at-scale dengue VLP manufacture and preliminary results from production in bioreactors.

The webinar will then move from manufacture to application, presenting data generated using VLPs and exploring their potential as serological capture agents, including in the detection of neutralising antibodies.

Holger Hannemann pic

Holger Hannemann | Director of R&D, Antigens and Reagents

Holger studied biology at the University of Erlangen, Germany, and earned a PhD studying transcription factors regulating morphological changes in Aspergillus fumigatus and Candida albicans. His postdoctoral studies at the Universities of Idaho and Bristol focused on the molecular and biochemical interactions of human cytomegalovirus and dengue virus with their hosts.

He joined The Native Antigen Company in 2012, where he developed native antigens and introduced recombinant expression technology to the portfolio. Since the acquisition of The Native Antigen Company by LGC in 2020, he has led R&D focused on new antigens and reagents. His team is based in Oxford, UK.
