Laura Alvarez

Laura Alvarez is Deputy Director of Science and Regulatory Affairs at Cruelty Free International, where she provides scientific and regulatory expertise to support the replacement of animal tests with non-animal, human-relevant approaches. She has more than 15 years' experience spanning laboratory science, regulatory science and policy, and has contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications on animal use statistics, regulatory toxicology and the development and regulatory acceptance of non-animal approaches.

She studied Biomedical Sciences at Royal Holloway, University of London, and Clinical Microbiology at Queen Mary University of London. Before joining Cruelty Free International, she worked as a veterinary microbiologist at the UK government's Animal and Plant Health Agency, where she developed in vitro test systems to assess disinfectants against clinically important viruses.
