Lab Thread Ltd, a UK-based life science software company, has announced the beta launch of its flagship unified lab software platform. The platform is designed to provide an intuitive and adoptable interface with powerful collaborative features, helping to connect researchers, lab operations and scientific data across teams, ultimately advancing scientific discovery.

Designed with researchers in mind

Iteratively refined with input from experts across the biological sciences, the Lab Thread platform supports a range of functions crucial to modern biological research labs. It combines multiple modules commonly used by scientists, including project management, DNA engineering, sample recording and tracking, a laboratory notebook, experimental data management and robust chat functions.

The platform also offers broad compatibility with other laboratory software, allowing teams to integrate it into their existing processes. This ability is intended to foster real-time cross-collaboration across different lab groups.

Streamlined user experience and personalisation

Lab Thread aims to simplify and streamline the lab experience. Unlike many other lab management software options, the platform allows users to create and manage their own teams and accounts that adapts to individual requirements and improves with the user.

Additionally, the platform leverages AI-based systems to enhance search functionalities. A comprehensive development roadmap is in place to integrate further AI capabilities alongside new platform features, including:

  • New dedicated modules for molecular engineering, featuring built-in cloning simulation tools.
  • Expansion of the In-Lab Processes module to cover a wider range of laboratory operations, including extraction, analytical methods, production workflows, cell culture and bioprocessing.
  • Enhanced LIMS integration, with equipment servicing and full sample traceability linked to experimental data in real time.

Funding and development

The development of the Lab Thread platform has been supported by a combination of funding from the company’s founding team and Mercia Asset Management, which provided $1m funding in June 2025.

“The Lab Thread platform is an elegant, all-in-one software solution for biological research labs, providing powerful collaborative tools across data management, analysis and DNA engineering. I am extremely pleased to announce the beta release of the platform and look forward to receiving feedback from our early adopters, whose views will be critical in shaping the next chapters of the product’s evolution,” said Dr Ryan Cawood, co-founder and CEO of Lab Thread.

A step forward for lab collaboration

With the beta release now underway, Lab Thread is inviting early adopters to engage with the platform and contribute feedback that will help shape future developments. The company’s vision is to create a unified, adaptable environment that streamlines lab operations while enabling teams to collaborate more effectively, advancing both research efficiency and scientific innovation.

“This launch culminates an intensive development process, particularly over the past six months as we have worked to deliver the beta on schedule, and I’m extremely proud and thankful to our dedicated team for making this possible,” Dr Cawood concluded.
